If you are looking for an alternative qualification to GSCEs, Functional Skills Level 2 are a great option to consider. It is equivalent to GCSE Grade C or Level 4, recognised by schools and employers alike and is an Ofqual approved qualification. If for whatever reason someone was unable to get their GCSEs, this is very useful to them and to those who are still looking for a way to gain some form of qualifications to progress. This may also be an option for those who have gained qualifications in a different country but have not been recognised in the UK.
One of the great things about the Maths and English Functional Skills Level 2 is that it provides questions that cater to everyday situations. Developing skills that you may need to use in your daily activities whether it’s at home or at work. GCSE exams tend to be more focused and abstract, while the Functional Skills are more relatable which results in easier to understand topics. Another big benefit of the Functional Skills is the flexibility. You can take the exam whenever you want or whenever you feel you are ready which allows you to prepare and revise at your own pace. The GCSEs do not give you this option as they are held only twice a year in May and November.
There will be a cost unless you are eligible for the government funded courses. You must be in full time education and 19 years or under to qualify. There are only a few options for the adults though, so most learners will need to pay themselves. We at the London Tutor Company highly recommend Pass Functional Skills for being cheap with the best quality to help you achieve your goals.
